Little People Imposters
Halt!
Who goes there?
Here you'll find a guide to character figures made by companies other than Fisher Price. Since some are very similar to each other....and to the untrained eye, even to some of the Fisher-Price people....it's important that you sharpen your skills now.
Of course, if you want to see the original, genuine items, then just click on over to our Fisher-Price People Types page for a glimpse at the real McCoy's.......
So, with a blaring of trumpets and a rolling of drums, let's go into the list:
There were five different Puzzletown sets made by Playskool. Each set contained three plastic figures which measure anywhere from 1-1/2" to 3" tall (the above characters are from set "B" - Huckle Cat's Family Cottage). These characters were used exclusively with Playskool's version of the nursery rhyme "The Little Old Lady Whom Lived In A Shoe". These characters are always made of all wood, and measure from 2" to 2-1/2" tall.

Playskool - Lacing Shoe Shape Sorter
These were used with Playskool playsets and are commonly called "block-heads" (for obvious reasons!), and range in size from 1-3/4" to 2" tall. If you look at them long enough, though, you'll find them to be rather cute too! Illco made a number of different characters besides the Disney figures (shown above), many of which not only looked very similar to Fisher-Price's line of little people, but also actually fit into the same accessory items (cars, chairs, etc.). These characters are approximately 2" tall. Cute and adorable. A nice addition to your collection, sure; but don't ever mistake them for the real thing!

These characters are about 1-1/2" tall. Sometimes they can be found in the Fisher-Price catagory on e-bay, but they are NOT made by Fisher-Price. These characters are made by a compant called ARCO. Lots of sets with same-shape Disney characters and accessories were made. These figures are 2-1/2" tall and have "Disney" and "Malaysia" written on the back.

Tree-tots were made during the mid to late seventies, and came in a variety of different playsets, such as the treehouse, amusement park, lighthouse, etc. These characters are small, measuring just a little over an inch tall! Shelcore figures were made for Wal-Mart's snack bars in the 90's and given as prizes in their kids meals for about 3 years.

We do not know exactly who made these characters, but they are very close "knock-offs" of Fisher-Price Little People, including a solid red chickens that is the same shape as the Fisher-Price Little People chickens! The most notable feature about these characters is that they have round molded noses....a feature that Fisher-Price Little People never had. This shameless copy of the Fisher-Price Little People even went so far as to call the characters "Little People". This copyright infringement caused quite a stir within the Fisher-Price corporation.

Several of the Charles Schulz Peanuts characters were made into Little People shaped and sized figures with accessory vehicles. This knockoff was produced by Aviva in 1977. The packaging reads "Aviva Presents a Snoopy Push N Pull Toy".
